Please don't bore the Labrador Retreivers

A couple of weeks ago, my cousin, Femi and I were talking about dogs and he said if he were to chose a dog, he'll probably go for a Labrador so I did a little homework on the Labrador specie and this is what I discovered.
There have been various speculations about the origin of Labrador retriever, some of which are the black St. Hubert's hound from France, old European pointer breeds, dogs belonging to the native Indians and working water dogs from Portugal. However, the word 'Labradors' can be traced to the Spanish word for workmen and the Portuguese word for yeomen and laborers, 'Labradores.'
Labrador retrievers are dogs with charisma and friendly eyes. They possess the temperate to be family companions. A highly appraising feature of Labradors is their short, dense, weather resistant coat and its well-balanced conformation makes it easy to work in any field without much effort as well as working for long hours under difficult situations although they shed their coats more often than is expected especially round the haunches. Labradors usually have black brown or yellow (which ranges from cream to russet) coats. Did you know there are more black Labradors than there are brown or yellow. They are prone to hip dysphasia, which leads to arthritis, so they need lots of exercise to stay in good shape.
In my opinion Labradors are quite and interesting bunch and I suggest Labradors are good for families with lots of bubbling energy, because a Labradors is going to get bored in a quiet environment

Jokes for the day

This is another joke I came across and decided to publish it for all my readers. It's called:
Sleeping Pills
An exhausted looking blond dragged himself in to the doctor's office. "Doctor, there are dogs all over my neighborhood. They bark all day and all night, and I can't get a wink of sleep."

"I have good news for you," the doctor answered, rummaging through a drawer full of sample medications. "Here are some new sleeping pills that work like a dream. A few of these and your trouble will be over."

"Great," the blond answered, "I'll try anything. Let's give it a shot."

A few weeks later the blond returned, looking worse than ever. "Doc, your plan is no good. I'm more tired than before!"

"I don't understand how that could be", said the doctor, shaking his head. "Those are the strongest pills on the market!"

"That may be true," answered the blond wearily, "but I'm still up all night chasing those dogs and when I finally catch one it's hard getting him to swallow the pill!"

Thought for the day

I am marvelled when i take an inventory on dogs. If you have noticed, they are selfless in their faithfulness and loyalty to their owners, it's no wonder that Andrew A. Rooney said, "The average dog is a nicer person than the average person." Unlike humans, they pay no particular to different colours of their skin, they love without condition and the give out without expecting to recieve, they do not jump to conclusions or keep malice because some spoke in a certain way to them. Mark Twain says "Heaven goes by favour. If it went by merit,
you would stay out and your dog would go in." So let us take thought today and like dogs, overlook the things that draw us apart and concentrate on the thing that pull us together.

Stray dogs are not bad at all

Stray dogs often off-set a negative attitude, but on the contrary, there is a good side about stray dogs. it has been observed that more often than not, they turn out to be good pets and this I believe is because they have experience hardship and a life without love and acceptance, however when they come in contact with it, they respond well to it.A good example is Sexi-Lexi, who was picked up by Stephanie Miller. Now three years old, she has now been selected for the agility competition at the crufts in march. Miller says "She's taken to it like a duck to water, has extra private training and really loves it." Another example is six-year-old Ivan Mishukov. His parents abandoned Ivan when he was just four years old. The boy survived by begging for food, which he then shared with the dogs that roamed the streets with him. In return they protected him and found warm places to stay in Reutova, west of Moscow, where the winter temperature can reach minus 30C. The bond that developed between Ivan and the dogs was so strong that it took police nearly a month to separate them.

cancer in dogs

As our pets are living longer and healthier lives, we are seeing more and more develop heart disease and cancer- just like people. Dogs, cats and exotic animals all get many different types of cancer.
Some kinds of cancer are curable, some are treatable, and for some comfort care is only what can be provided
Whether a treatment or therapy is appropriate for your pet with cancer depends on:
1) the type of cancer (based on biopsy or cytology)
2) the grade or stage of the cancer (how aggressive or fast-moving it is)
3) the location

Dogs also experience skin disorder!

Dog owners like their dogs looking comfortable and happy, however even dogs are liable to contact skin disorders. They are the most crucial ailments that a owner has to deal with.
It is easy to tell from a dog's skin or coat if its health or not. These parasites, fleas, lice and ticks are one of the most common problems of skin disorder in dogs. However rash can be a long lasting problem that will require persistent treatments. As much as possible it is imporatnt for the dog owners to prevent it.
One of the best way keep your four footed friend happy is to employ the use of products such as Special tick Shampoo, Flea spray or Flea powder,Frontline or Biospot etc. The chemicalspreads through the dog's skin and kills the parasite, larvae and eggs. If your dogs are treated regularly, they are going to be unattractive host for the parasites.
